think of all the upstream and downstream effects when a big one goes bankrupt. I agree with Noel that "GM, Ford and Chrylser dug this hole themselves and deserve all the pain they are feeling." Unfortunately, it's not just the domestic automakers themselves are feeling the pain, it's the whole country, the usual domino effect.
The lack of a consistent energy policy, the roll back of various federal policies, strong lobbying by various group certainly can certainly take credit for the demise.
How about just merge all the domestic automakers into one ? As to what might happen later next ? Look no further than British Leyland, we seem to be heading that way.
