I have an Amex Gold Business card and use that exclusively for business purposes. I find it is good in many more places than it was even a couple years ago. That card's my first stop.
Next up, assuming I need cash, is a debit card that ONLY accesses an account I call "travel." I can put money into it from any computer with an internet connection, but I usually throw some cash in it before a trip. I carry a spare card for that account when I travel outside the US. (I've had colleagues have a U.S. debit card eaten by an ATM leaving them with no cash or access to it on a weekend in Europe.) ALWAYS have a spare debit card overseas. With the dedicated card I don't have to worry about someone who gets their mitts on it being able to hack the PIN and get at money in other accounts. It has a MasterCard logo on it and have used it all over the U.S., Canada, western Europe and in the Mid-East.
If I want credit, not cash, I use either a MasterCard or Discover card.
The final fallback is my regular debit card with a MasterCard logo (also with a spare card overseas).
