The B235R is the latest (final?) version of the engine designed by Ricardo Engineering of the UK for use in both Saabs and Triumphs. Numerous changes have been made to this engine design during its lifetime, not all being beneficial to its durability.
The changes which have caused most of the current problems are:
1) reduced space between crown of piston and oil ring, necessary to meet emissions requirements
2) the PCV system, apparently corrected with April 2006 TSB revisions
