I don't question Koenigsegg's engineering expertise. And you are right - it is something vital that Saab is currently lacking - good vision.

But to survive in a meaningful way, Saabs need to be more than just greatly engineered cars - they need to sell. And if they can't deliver on that - they are too expensive, they can't produce enough, they can keep their dealerships happy - then the company is going to fail no matter what. I love Saabs, I loved my old Saab. But I am afraid of them becoming so out of touch - a limited production rare collectors car that we just don't need more of. And if they fail on the mass production side, them they simply become a designer of platforms.

From a purely financial side it makes sense - build a couple good platforms you then sell out to other companies to build designs on. Other small companies that don't have the resources to build their own platforms then can make and sell cars at lower volumes and still be profitable. But I hate to think that Saab might end up being broken down in order to do this.
