Universal joint versus swivel adapter

I don’t use my tools enough for u-joint/swivel sockets so I’m only considering adapters. I tried a cheap universal joint adapter and a pin cracked after one use. I found the cheap one bound up part of the way through the rotation.
Sears has two versions of impact swivels (ball and pin and pinless spring loaded, which cost more). How do these work when used by hand? They seem stiff, but I suppose they will loosen up. My indy’s Snap-On ones look good, but they cost a fortune.
Am I better off with Craftsman, SK, or something else? Craftsman doesn’t make a 1/4" swivel.
