Took my 9K to the local BMW Club's advanced driving skills school today, a prereq for doing a track day with them tomorrow.
I'll do a detailed report later, but this absolutely rocked! Emergency maneuvers, braking and steering exercises, skid pad, figure 8, autocross. All wetted down so you could slide, get understeer, oversteer, get rotation, etc.
My '96 9K CSE, with Aero suspension and SAS bars worked real well and some of the Bimmer guys were quite impressed with its capabilities, like going around the skid pad faster than a Corvette, M3 or M5. OK tires have a lot to do with this, and the driver plays a part, but it was kinda cool to have these guys liking my trusty old 9K.
More info to follow. Tomorrow it's a 1.8 mile road course. Helmets required.
I think all the BMW clubs do these events, so it's worth checking out.You learn a lot and it is huge fun. There were BMWs, Subies, 2 Acura NSXs, an Infiniti, Mazda Spec Racer, Mazda CX7, a C-class Benz, a Corvette.
Vroom!
