More basic is nice.

Whenever I drive something basic I think of how hugely practical it is. And I think back on the various cars I've owned that didn't have many bells and whistles. They all worked fine and didn't have a lot go wrong with them.
I compare my '96 9K to my wife's 9-5 and even #2 daughter's '99 9-3 and think about how much simpler it is--and easier to work on. But then I think of my old '84 C900 (or my '86 GTI or '78 Scirocco) and the 9K seems too complex by comparison. But most new cars have umpteen computers and only basic mechanical stuff can be done by the average DIY guy. There are too many potential failure points in modern cars and I don't think there's a real advantage to most of the "features" that drive up the cost of modern cars.
