You're not a geezer -- you're just nostalgic for something you can't ever have anymore.
Sure, there's a lot of BS available for new cars these days (rain-sensing wipers come to mind) but much of the new stuff enhances safety and I'm all for it (side curtain airbags, EBD, stability control, etc.).
And new cars, even with all the superfluous crap, are light years better than the stuff cranked out even 15 years ago. My primary objection to a lot of the BS in new cars is that it comes 'packaged' with a lot of the good stuff so I have to pay for it even though I don't want or need it.
And some of the worst automotive experiences I've had came with one of the simpler cars I owned -- an '80 VW Rabbit L with unreliable electronics. My '04 Mazda6 wagon, though, is by today's standard a stripped car -- V6, manual tranny, power windows, and no options whatsoever -- and it's been bulletproof for 91K miles.
