There is only one BMW dealer in Toledo, OH, and they can charge what they want to charge and replace expensive parts without any guarantee of fixing a problem - they seem to be the only ones with the special programming tools needed to do this kind of work. This is why YOU PEOPLE have such a bad reputation - LOL. To their benefit, I would guess that there are probably no mechanics left there who were trained on servicing 1993 BMWs.
I told my brother to send me the module and I would touch up all of the solder joints (my educated guess as to the cause of the problem, I'm an electrical engineer), but he doesn't want to risk having a completely non-operative car when it comes back.
