First off, I never have any problems with the bolts I install (tiny touch of grease to avoid rust + torque to 90lb-ft), but from other professional mechanics... well, it's to the point that I now always loosen + retorque all the wheel bolts after any service to check + to avoid having to haul a 5' pipe around in the car to deal with a flat...
My personal favorite was the time I could not crack several bolts even after *jumping* on the end of a 5 foot long pipe on a 24" wrench (yeah paint flaked off too)... turns out when the tire shop finally got the wheel off, there was copper never seize on the bolts + that plus overtightening did it... they said never put anything on the bolts because it allows extreme over torquing. I can see how that is true of the never seize (it's pretty thick) but in my experience a very small touch of light grease on the threads does help battle corrosion.
