We have lots of moose up here, so it's a nice to know even the c900 is up to the task (though I wouldn't want to wreck either of them!)... they are hard to spot at night! afaik, Saab is the only manufacturer to do a moose collision test (suspended bundle of cables). Some others do an avoidance test (which Saab also does), but some decent manufacturers don't even do that (Mercedes had a noted failure of this test - car rolled over!).
I have several of the recent Folksam PDFs "how safe is your car" if you want them (the PDFs are large)... Saab used to be "Safest Car in Sweden" according to Folksam, but now, they refer to many models as "safest" as the rating. Many of those models get that rating purely on crash test results as there is inadequate real life data. In the past, I think those cars were left out of it... So I find the Folksam reports are kind of diluted now as compared to before, but maybe I'm just biased... anyway, I completely agree with you, as useful as crash testing is, the additional real life feedback system Saab uses is way better - that's how we get better crash tests (like the SUV side impact)...
