The US did have a better economic environment than Canada back in the 1990's, as the taxes were lower and the government had relatively balanced budget. In the 00's, the twin wars and massive government expansion in the US has destroyed that advantage . . . currently may well have fallen behind Canada, as the relative wage levels imply.

Outsource and trade as free market exchanges do improving living standards. For example, you and I do not grow most our own food; we "outsource" food production to people who can deliver food to us at lower cost than we can do it ourselves. It is indeed a win-win.

The problem with some of the current out-source waves is that businesses are being subsidized by government military spending to outsource jobs to places that local despots keep the local labor price down while kiss up to American businesses. That's essentially a government transfer of wealth from companies that hire here to companies that ship jobs overseas.

Canadians and Americans being able to decide where to live and work is actually a good thing: so the talents can escape from overly burdensome governments, which in turn are held in check by that voting by feet. I only wish there were that level of competition between various states and provinces, so governments would be more efficient and less costly.
