Unless there is slipping, shouldn't the distance traveled in a straight line exactly the same as the circumference of the tire? Of course the discussion is limited to normal automobile tires, not skid-loaders where skidding is part of the steering process and treads are much deeper potentially giving variations.
I actually went and measure the tires on the wheel, the vertical diameter and the horizontal diameters are different because the weight of the car is compressing and deforming the tire (one of the reasons why tire mfrs tell us to put the car on a lift for long term storage (like that ever happens; LOL). However, the circumference shouldn't change as that is constrained by the tread length itself, not at all affected by the tire per se. So long as there is no slipping, the distance traveled is determined by the circumference of the tire. So the simple math done for the unloaded tire should be correct . . . unless of course I'm missing something :-)
