Much of the appeal of the keylessness is the fashion/toy factor. A minor argument for it on cars like Honda and Toyota was that many people keep too many/heavy objects on the key chain, ending up breaking/loosening the key hole on the steering column. Many Hondas and Toyotas from the 80's and early 90's could be started with butter knives after a couple decades of service in the hands of (IMHO) negligent owners who hang that many/heavy objects on them, becoming prime car thief target for their valuable parts. It seems to me that a much less costly and practical solution would be sharing knowledge of the fact and encouraging people to keep car keys separate from their key chains. I always did that, and my wife got the idea very quickly after I showed her what her key chain was doing to her car many years ago. Alas, there is no money in spreading that simple knowledge, so we end up with a "cool factor" device that can kill people and/or leaving people stranded.
