Does Mercedes still offer MB-Tex? This was a nice, durable, vented type of vinyl they used to offer as the standard upholstery in most of their car lines.
And I think in Europe you can get fabric, MB-Tex and leather. I've been in BMWs, Audis and Volvos in Europe that had cloth seats so it must differ by market.
No idea of the delta between cloth and leather, but I'd guess it is 1.5 to 2X. But I do think that to compete with mid-range and entry-luxury there needs to be a range of models and trims. To some extent, the *availability* of say, cloth seats, no sunroof, and a lower level of content may mean more than actually *delivering* on it because it enables pricing to be set to alter buyers' perceptions. When I worked for VW we used to order cars with certain options and let the dealers move the iron. But if someone wanted a more basic car it was usually obtainable.
