Just last week got a new top put on my Corvair. It's 12 hours or so labour for a pro who knows what they are doing. Mine took a lot longer as it was a brand new top frame and everything so there was a lot of fitting, adjusting, etc. That's for a simple 60s-style one layer top. The Saab top would be way more work.
People have done tops at home and had acceptable results but it takes a lot longer. Lots of it takes 2 people to accomplish.
So, if you've got a lot of patience and time, are detail oriented, have all the right tools, a good dependable helper, you could probably do it on your own.
