Your post sounds exactly like my rants when the County Highway Dept replaced a fully signalled intersection with a Round-a-bout only a half mile from my house. I was convinced it was the stupidest thing ever designed until a few weeks after its installation. Now I realize it actually helps smooth traffic flow during the evening and morning rush hours. The one draw back is traffic entering from the east bound lanes during the brief evening rush when southbound traffic is very heavy. These poor folks have to wait a long time for a break to enter the circle.
Traffic laws:
1) Don't drive through the painted red and raised middle section. It is raised and painted red to mark it as off limits.
2) Traffic in the circle has the Right-of-Way. Traffic entering the circle must yield to traffic already there, merge smoothly, and should avoid coming to a full stop if possible.
3) Treat all vehicles in and entering the circle as if their drivers have no idea what the use instructions are, and are therefore prone to doing anything without warning.
