I'm not sure what the best approach is... 900/9000? so the 9-5 should be 90000? the 9-7x should be 9000000x?!? if Saab stayed at only a couple models (a 90, 900, 9000), it could work...
what is written on the car is not actually a mathematical expression because 9^3=729 and we know that 9-3 means "900" (not somewhat < 900 in spite of what some old school critics might suggest!)... should the 9-5 instead have 59049 on the back? that would raise some eyebrows! (9-7x even more so: 4782969x)...
a more proper mathematical expression would be 9x10^(3-1) for the 900/9-3 and 9x10^(5-1) for the 9-5... beauty!
Giving the cars flowery names like "Elantra" or whatever would fly in the face of decades of Swedish Aerospace inspired tradition...
nine-three. nine-five... that all works, imho... it's just hard to type in normal ascii, that's the only problem with the nomenclature imho... maybe the best bet is to ditch the superscript + go back to the original way of doing things: 96, 95 etc... and so what if they get called "ninety-five" etc occasionally? (and I think that was the original point at the superscript: go back to the old numbering but hint at the 1980's/early90's model correlation to the uninitiated)...
