A similar thing happened to me 6 years ago. The damage to my 9-5 was only a couple shallow scrapes low in the bumper skin that I never did ahve repaired but I apparently did over $1200 damage to the Pontiac Sunfire that I didn't see, and which I strongly suspect was trying to blast by me in the aisle as I was backing out.

Under Michigan law the driver backing up is at fault in all circumstances so your insurance company has likely already been approached by the other driver's company. No citations are issued for this type of accident becuase it was on private propety and because of Michigan's No Fault auto insurance law. The other driver's insurance company will likely file a $500 minor tort claim, the maximum allowable, against your insurance to recoup part of the cost of repairing their insured automobile.

It sucks but there is nothing you can do.
