So I have an original iPhone (yes, the very first one that ever came out!). I want to take the sms messages and transfer them to a new iphone (say, iphone 4, or 5) so that they are transferred on there. I did some searching and found a file on my original iphone that is a database file containing my messages. The new iphones also have them. It's got the exact same name. However (and I tried this with my ipod touch iOS 6) if one just swaps the files manually and then does a restore in iTunes, it doesn't work as one would expect. It gives you an error message. That's because this file, for the new iOS, though having the same name must be some different format.
I found this website (linked below) that lets you upload the said file. If you upload one from the original iphone, it works, and it ALSO works for the file from the new iOS. That is, the people who wrote the software on the site know how to read them both.
So I guess my question is, since I know little to nothing about databases is, how can I get the information out of the file from the original iphone and somehow create another for the new iphone? Maybe even just figuring out the format and copying and pasting the messages with necessary tags that I want.
The name of the cryptic file is: 3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28 and it is located here: /Users/<user_name>/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
Thanks so much if you can help!
