Those things are only free if the car has < 4 years or 50K on it.
If you buy an older used car, you're going be paying the bills yourself - and they can be considerable depending on year and model.
This info is of course a bit out of date, but when I worked as a German car mechanic in the mid-1990s, toward the end of my time we were getting some late-model BMWs in for prepurchase inspections and could have sworn the odometers were rolled back. 3-4 year old cars with 60 or 70K on them needing a bunch of front suspension parts replaced (often over $1,000 parts + labor), stuff like that. It was quite a departure from the older models which held up better.
