We are thinking this very topic now. Our two 9-5s are getting long-in-the-tooth at 11 and 12 years and 158K and 118K miles. So we bought a 2014 Volvo S60 for a reliable long trip vehicle. We had planned to keep the 2003 Saab to drive until my wife retired from work next year then sell it.
But now I am having Saab withdrawal symptoms and leaning toward keeping both Saabs in case one is killed in a crash or suffers an engine/transmission failure. We know the histories of these two vehicles and are confident in their care.
Thanks to Saabnet I can fix most of the common maladies with these 9-5s myself and thus save a lot of money. Considering the commonality of parts and my ability to repair the two, we are now considering keeping both just to continue owning a Saab in the future and avoiding buying a another new Volvo at $40K plus.
