Saab hatch hauling ability

We have all heard/traded stories, almost all true, of the amazing ability of the Saabs (especially hatch models) to haul stuff.
I have done: tall cylindrical water heaters, laundry machine/dryer, big old 32 in tube TV(remember those?), futon frame, electric drain snake machine, etc, etc.
Question is, what is the viabiliy of transporting a SAAB engine in the back of a SAAB 9000? Contemplating this because my brother's 98 Saab 9000 needs an engine and I have one rolling around the garage. Probably strap to a pallet to keep from shifting around. Remove seats to move fore in the cargo bay to keep the 400 plus pounds a bit more forward. Anyone ever done it?
