Yeah, the highlander is bigger than we would like from a driving perspective, but it would be convenient for the long trips we do with family. Tbh, the 9-5 wagon is the perfect size, but nobody offers larger wagons anymore except Volvo and maybe Audi. I guess there are a couple small ones like VW golf wagon (and I think there is/was kind of an allroad version). The downside of the 9-5 for road trips is the small weight carrying capability (without wrecking the suspension and eating tires.
The issue with highlander in Canada is they get stolen. Huge target for thieves.
But if you need a sedan rather than a hatch or wagon, there are a lot more choices. I ended up renting a forte for a week and honestly it wasn't that bad a car to drive - 1.6L turbo. I wouldn't buy one as it probably won't last, but it would drive fine as a lease. I think that is the secret to Hyundai and Kia's success: leasing disposable cars. Seems to suit the market these days... Doesn't appeal to me though...
