Well, this is a Saab forum, but...
I'd get a Grand Cherokee, too. I have a 4Runner and chose it for its extra room in the back and perceived Toyota quality. It has been a great vehicle, but it does lack a bit of the Jeep personality. The Jeep and 4Runner are great off road, but QuadraDrive on the Jeep makes it a pretty impressive vehicle . Quality is fine now (read the Car and Driver long term test... cheaper to run in one year than an M-Class and a RX300. Plus it didn't require unscheduled stops- like the Merc and Lexus).
Unless you plan to drive off road, I think you're better off with a minivan or station wagon. But since mud is part of your venue and I'm hoping that you'll spend some time off roading with clubs/Jeep Jamborees (hint, hint), you'll do well in the Grand Cherokee.
