I saw the Buick Rendezvous at the Vancouver Auto Show and if the build quality of the Saab version of this car is anything like that of the Rendezvous, Saab will be toast. Also spoke to the guys at the Saab stand who say the new 9-3 will be out very late 2002 in North America, as for looks he said think small 9-5 but NO hatchback so he said I should get myself a 9-3 now if I want a hatch. I dont think the 9-3 is very good value against its competitors though, the Merc C Class is the same price, offers better safety features has more room but is let down by its cheap plastic interior quality which reminded me of early 1990s Opel/Vauxhall cars in Europe and the God Awful Hyundai-esque seat fabrics YUK!!! the Saab interior was of a much higher quality with plastic that does a great impersonation of leather! I seriously think all the supposed pictures of the new 9-3 are not at all representative of what the final car will look like. The Merc 230K Sport Coupe was there too but again was let down by cheap interior materials but promises to be a 'bargain' at CAD35000 with its 190bhp 200ft/lb of torque, it looked pretty cool in metallic silver.
No Mini Cooper though which was VERY disappointing!
BTW the salesman at the Audi stand did a great impression of an a--hole such was his arrogance when I asked about the new A4...but then again all an Audi is is a Volkswagen with OOOO on the front , right!
I have also trashed the styling of the Volvo S60 here too, I take it all back it looks fabulous in real life!
