Fellow SAABers - do you also feel my pain? Seems there are no limits to the number of slick, glossy "DIY" softcovers on hand at any of the big bookstores if I want to turn my Honda/Jeep/VW/brand "X" car into a performance street terror.
I have NEVER seen book one even dealing w/ the tiniest bit of Saab info - what's the deal? Global conspiracy, or just some seriously ignorant "motorbooks international" publishers out there?
I'm sure if I spend enuff time on the net, I may find some cool books published in Sweden or Europe, but why not here?
The 99 Turbo was the FIRST successful turbo sports coupe for the masses, I'm not talkin' Porsche whaletails here. These cars have all the positive attributes you'd ever want with a performance car, yet are affordable and unbelievably tunable - go to any Saab performance website, you non-SAABers, and reel at the stats - 300-plus HP, skidpad G's like you can't believe, and thanks to a long production run (78-93 900's), absolutely tons of cheap parts avail.
I never fail to wonder why the Saab, especially the 99's and 900's, have such a vocal, intelligent following (look at this website alone) yet get so royally shafted in mass media print.
Sorry for the sermon, just tweaked that my motorhead pals w/ their Buicks, Bugs, Beemers, and Bentleys get more than their fair share of air time.
Toecutter - 86 900T rally prepped, w/ a puny 16 valve 4 banger that has more power than my brother's '69 Dodge Charger 383.
"nuff said.
