The turbo works like this: On hard acceleration, the unit "spools up", and you feel a fairly immediate boost in power evenly up to the higher rpm range. Of course, you have basic factors w/ a turbo like turbo lag, which means you don't get that truly immediate sensation of being pinned to your seat, it takes a moment for the unit to wind up as it forces the air/fuel down the motor's throat. Also you can tune turbo motors in such a manner to squeeze the most performance from them, minimizing detonation, lag, cooling probs, etc.
Anybody will tell you that the turbo unit is the way to go on these cars since it really is the way to max out their true power potential.
It is also easy to live with - not like the old days, when in order to get power out of your American V8 you ordered it w/ a big bore hi - cfm 4 barrel. When you punched it, yes you got instant response and gobs of HP. But try driving around to the store, visiting gramma, whatever and NOT use the full potential of the carb. It ran rough, got terrible mileage, and was actually rather unpleasant.
With turbos, and especially metered fuel injection, you get precise fuel/air mix, and power when you need it. You don't have to get hard into your tubo if you don't want to.
Yea, this was long - hope you get an OG SPG or 99/900T. The new GM Saab does'nt do it for me.
