A break-in change at 2000 km or always a good idea. Then every 8000 km would be fine. For the 9-3, I believe Saab says a minimum of semi-synthetic 5w-30 oil. Depending on if you have mainly freeway or city driving and the type of oil you use, change intervals can be 8000km or even 16,000km.
Personally, I use full synthetic Mobil 1 oil and change oil and filter every 8000km as I do a lot of short (10-20km) city trips. Others on this board run 16,000km between oil and filter changes using full synthetic in mainly highway usage.
