The aircraft manufacturer is separate from the car maker. Production rates are unknown. You can get info on the Swedish Air Force (Flygvapnet) at http://www.mil.se/flyg. It's in Swedish and English. They list the fleets at the various air divisions within Sweden so you can search and get an idea of how many fighter (jagt) planes they have. Lots of photos too.
Their latest fighter is the Gripen. Decent plane but it's not state-of-the-art. Unlike the latest American designs, it's not stealthy. And they had some initial problems with flight control software -- it's all fly-by-wire -- but they've probably resolved them. It's not as good as the latest US fighter aircraft (the F-22 and Joint Strike Fighter) but it could probably hold it's own against an F-16.
In the final analysis, though, the effectiveness of a particular aircraft is a function of the quality and training of the pilot who flies it. An idiot in an F-22 will get killed by a decent pilot in a Gripen.
