LOL...But, as a former owner of a Peugeout 604, I know from where I speak :)
Actually when I was young my dad had a Peugeout 403, and that was a really neat little car. I can remember when the batter was starting to get tired and the car didn't want to start in the AM...well, Dad just reached into the trunk, pulled out a little crank, stuck it thru a hole in the grille, and cranked it up by hand, Model T style. A whopping 40 hp, worm drive rear end, and a killer sunroof. Lots of memories of riding around in that car :)
One thing about French cars, even the smallest piece o' junk Renault LeCar always have GREAT rides, seems like all French cars have LOTS of suspension travel, amazingly cushy rides, but handle halfway decent too.
I tell ya what, I've worked on a lot of cars, I have NEVER seen a more poorly engineered, built, you name it, than a Peugeout 604. Supposedly Peugeout's answer to Mercedes, dang near ALL the power accessories ran from vacuum...i was surprised there was enough air left over to run the car! Dual carbs, but one one barrel and one two barrel connected thru some crazy bellcrank arrangement. Spaghetti vacuum lines all over, the infamous PRV V-6 (jointly developed Peugeout/Renault/Volvo), i don't think i've ever seen a TALLER engine. the sump was HUGE, gorgeous castings, but from the bottom of the sump to the top of the valve cover, that engine must be 4 feet tall...lol...No wonder they had oiling problems to the cams.
I think it's telling that you haven't been able to buy a new French car in the US for almost 12 years.
