try not aiming for the potholes & the cheap pirelli tires & BBS rims would of lasted longer. I actually had a GLi with 195-50-15 tires & NEVER bent a rim or screwed up the tire due to the low sidewall. It's the same size rim you had if your BBS rims were stock & I had VERY VERY expensive (Joke/sarcasm) Yokohama tires.
Lets, see
$4K in my rims (+tires, $800), $300 springs, $380 Koni Adjustables & like I think I stated previously, it rides BETTER then the car did stock! Handling is also, ummm, no comparison!!!
The reasons I did this are I wanted better handling & steering feel. A side effect is the car look 100x's better then it did with the OEM rims & it looks a lot better then my 87 did with 9K aero rims. My rims are actually lighter then the OEM SPG rims but I haven't compared them to 16 in aero rims yet :o)
I would also like to know who "most people" are? I think you are generalizing in that you aimed for pot holes & couldn't figure out how to drive properly & keep the rims on your VW thus anyone who wants to make their car look different by adding larger rims is bad?
I just get tired of people "acting" like they know everything (I am not claiming I do by the way) when they have probably NEVER ridden in a C900 (or any other car) with 18's, etc..... so they really don't have a clue what they are talking about. Just talking about information which they feel is correct but is wrong!
O yea, I also use my rims for drivers school events & I am 31 years old.
"over it" LOL
