How's about a little more pertinent info? Posted by IrieTom [Email] (#1032) [Profile/Gallery] (more from IrieTom) on Wed, 5 Dec 2001 16:54:59 In Reply to: What? Me? NEUROTIC?!?!?!?!?, Adrian, Wed, 5 Dec 2001 16:01:34 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Is your transmission automatic or manual? Is your motor 4 cylinders or 6? Normally aspirated or a turbo? If it's a turbo, is it low pressure or high output?
For spark plugs, pull them out, check the gap, and look closely at them. Are they oily? Black? Grey? Brown? Scorched? Mine are usually brownish, which doesn't indicate any particular problems.
Oil change? Keep track of mileage, and change the oil at intervals of...<{3,000 to 10,000 miles- there are LOTS of opinions here, and organic vs. synthetic oil is another hotly contested issue}>
Brakes, suspension, transmission... Need to be fixed/replaced whenever they no longer perform correctly. Brake pads should be replaced whenever they wear too thin. Same for tire treads. Fluids should be flushed at regular intervals (every year or two)
You should find out whether or not your car has a timing chain or a timing belt. NG900's with timing belts (the infamous V6) need special attention, because a belt failure will cause major damage $$$$$$$$$$$$...
You will get much more accurate answers if you can describe any symptoms in great detail. Vague 'doesn't feel "right"' descriptions are only frustrating to those of us who would like to help. Also, try posting questions on the "NG900" bulletin board. You'll have the greatest chance of attracting the attention of someone familiar with your car.
Good luck- I commend you for being pro-active and trying to identify potential problems before they snowball into bigger issues.
