call 800 information and get the toll free number for the Georgia corporate headquarters customer information line. Then give them the VIN number and ask for the date placed in service and the name of the dealer that first sold the car. Even if its a lease, it had to start with a dealer. Corporate, under the new influence of GM is not as forthcoming as when they were located in Orange, CT, so this will be about all you will get from them. Then call that dealer, which could be anywhere, not just down the street from you, and request the service records because you "will be" using them if you buy the car. From my experience you will get some info this way, but not a complete history. Local dealers claim they cannot access a car that was not serviced at that dealership, I'm not sure that is true.
And pay for a carfax report. The best $14.95 you will ever spend.
Good luck.
