Have you checked the eingine timing lately? Bak in my hot rod days, we used
to increase the timing: (BTDC) when using higher octane and/or higher compression heads, to take advantage of higher energy. There was a basic,
seat of the pants test that i have forgotten; something about timing an
uphill run at different degrees of advance to get best setting. Now they
have computers that will do that. My point is that if the time was set so
it was a little slow, it would do better on the lower octane than on the
higher. Sometimes theres a big difference between theoretical timing (factory) and actual application.
