I'm not anti-SUV...

I just think that two SUVs is a bit much. Audi has zero SUVs yet kicks Saab's butt in terms of sales. I realize that, for whatever reason, people desire the X5 (BMW) or the Lexus RX300 or the Merc Minivan (i.e., whatever that thing is called). I've even contempted buying an SUV (although once you get used to having nice handling, stopping, and power, it's hard to consider a heavy, poor stopping, and underpowered SUV). I just think that this particular market segment is too overloaded as it is. Heck, just lift the 9-5 wagon, add awd, and put a bunch of plastic on it (a la Audi Allroad), and people would probably be happy. Hey, I'd be happy with awd in the Viggen -- it's got as much cargo space and rear seat room as most small SUVs. Do we really need two Saab SUVs and a Volvo SUV?
It should be noted that the article might be wrong -- the front page of the Saabnet has another article where the 9-x is discussed. Perhaps they are calling the 9-x an "SUV," although it's really a small station wagon with awd. Perhaps they should use the "SAV" moniker, as BMW does.
