John
1) DON'T bring a knife in. Due to recent events - you may be searched (they are doing it more often nowadays), and knives are generally illegal - especially folding ones. In fact, you can't buy a metal knife of ANY type if you are under 16. This includes kitchen cutlery!!!! The younger set can only legally but plastic cutlery if they are going campng or something. Sounds rediculous - it is - but do yourself a favour and avoid the hassle - just but one here
2) Radar detectors are very illegal. The cops say that they have passive radar detector "detectors" in their cars - and will confiscate the unit and fine you.
3) The Northern Territory (WAAYYYY up north) has some open roads that have no speed restriction. That is all fine until you hit a cattle grid across the raod - or worse still a flock of sheep at 220kph!!!
Other than that - don't get the idea that you can't have fun over here! We are so close to canadians when it comes to attitude and lifestyle, that you'll be made very welcome.
