You have a good point. I've always liked what Volvo does. For many years they continued to make parts available for their "cult" cars, the 544 and 122 models. Then several years ago when it became prohibitively expensive for them to continue to manufacture and stock these parts, they licensed certain manufacturers to produce these parts to original specs, and when buyers ask for these parts, Volvo refers them to these manufacturers. Apparently there's sufficient demand for parts for these models to justify the specialty manufacturers continuing to make these parts. This arrangement also insures that the parts meet the original standards in terms of quality. This system gets Volvo out of the business of manufacturing low-demand (by their standards) parts that they can't make money on, yet it preserves a good relationship with the owners of older Volvos. Who knows, they may decide to buy a new Volvo someday!
It will be interesting to see if the new Ford-owned Volvo continues this practice.
