I'm not an engineer, but I've had two years of pre-engineering and have
been interested in engines of all kinds for about 60 years. That sounds
like an interesting concept. I have several questions about it: 1) How
thick would the "disk" have to be to convey normal intake and exhaust gases
Radially? 2) How is the disk rotated; a shaft through the center would interfere with the radial 'tunnels', are you sure the disk doesn't rotate about it's radial axis? I do remember similar designs in motorcycles and
small experimental engines. The one that I remember was a disk that had a
sector cut out of the circle, and as the circle rotated the sector covered
and uncovered intake/exhaust ports. The two cycle engine in the two stroke
Saabs is even simpler, in that you have no valves, valve springs, rocker arms or any valve "stuff". But the timing is rather inflexible in that the
only way to change it is with machining. hehe.
