I too have often thought along these lines. It would be nice to have the opportunity to buy a car with top of the line suspension and brakes and strong (although not necessarily ultimate) power without the leather seats, sunroof, Auto Climate Control and all the other extra stuff that drives up purchase cost and repairs thousands of dollars. There is nothing wrong with having the other stuff but it would be nice to have the option to get a top drawer driver's car without it.

Is there a market? Sure. Is it a big enough market? I don't know if it is.

Many want and can afford the extras and would get them on the same car anyway. This is fine. Of the others unfortunately too many people would look at the car and instead of seeing the outstanding basic engineering and qualifications of the car as a driver's car would see a car without sunroof and leather and ACC for the same price or more than one that as it and would conclude it isn't a very good car or deal.

The masses tend to be silly this way. I will excuse those who just don't know any better but those who get fixated on extraneous features and who will step down (buy a lesser car when there is something much better for about the same price) just to get leather and a sunroof strike me as pathetic. That is their right; I just don't think much of their judgement is all.
