Part of Saab's success in the northeast is because they were originally sold here. For a number of reasons, including the climate's similarity to Sweden (relative to say, Phoenix), and the car's corresponding adaption. Kurt Vonnegut was one of the first Saab dealers in the US and, in one of his books of collected works and essays, mentions how he was encouraged to take test drivers out on awful snowy days to showcase the car's winter driveability. Now, are the automotive (and cultural) stereotypes of New Englanders encouraged by exposure to Saabs (and volvos, and audis) or vice versa?
