I think you & your frind need to do some research on the cars before he buys one & you bash them! The early versions were & are still notorious for VERY expensive maintenance bills & not untill the early 90's did the esprit's finally become somewhat reliable! I few people I have talked to state the S4s is by far the best year to get a esprit because of the large amount of GM parts as well as most of the bugs have been worked out.
Remember, it IS a EXOTIC sports car & they are NOT cheap to fix! I friend has 2 diablo's & has his eyes out for a F40. I was talking to him about service prices & $10K+ was normal for service. There are actually numerous sites out there where it shows normal people doing the service on Esprit & from what I have read, the 4 cyl version are easily within reach of a DIY owner :o)
Someday I will have one, ..... someday :o)
