It must be said that I personally like the way the new 9-3S looks - I also love the way my '96 900SE (5-door) looks.

With anything new, people question its validity in the scheme of things.
When the 900 went to the 9-3, very few people complained because most of the change was under the skin. However, when the 9000 was replaced by the 9-5, people were up in arms. As it turns out, the 9-5 has done quite well and is now beloved by not only SAAB-ophiles but by the general public as well.
I predict the 9-3S will go the same way. In order for SAAB to survive, it needs to increase sales. This is just a fact of life. To do this, SAAB must appeal to a larger group of people. I truly believe with the 9-3S, they will significantly increase their sales within less than a year.

I am very excited to see the 9-3s in person and test drive it, as I am sure every one here is.

>>>Hatchback versus wagon issue<<<
I love my hatchback. But, truth be known, I would have been just as happy with a wagon (I almost bought a 9-5 wagon - I chose the 900 because it was less $$$). Can a hatchback and wagon survive in the same model line? I think so. Mazda's new 6 is a perfect example. As far as I can tell, the hatchback is nothing more than a sedan with a different trunk. The wagon, on the other hand, is a proper wagon. Surely SAAB can do the same thing. If they do not, it won't kill the 9-3S but it would hurt them a little.

I know a lot has been said about the 9-3S and I just wanted to put in my 2 cents.

Cheers.
