Let's just say that there is no way to create an ad that appeals to everyone. The whole "sliding sideways" concept has been waaaay overdone and frankly it doesn't appeal to Saab's target audience. You're more likely to see it in a Mazda ad that is targeting teenage drivers.
Having said that I think the current ad is very well done with just a touch of humor thrown in... You can't get too serious about it with performance numbers, etc.
My favorite Saab ad had to be the one that introduced the NG900 in 1994... Picture this... Four guys get out of the car and get on one side of it. They lift the car and roll it over (side to side) down an embankment. The car comes to a rest and they get back in it and drive off. The whole ad is done in ONE CONTINUOUS TAKE!
It was sooo unusual that Jay Leno mentioned in his Tonight Show monologue...
