1. Get a mid-to upper end laptop. You don't need a desktop unit. On Mac, spring for a PowerBook if you can afford the $2500, or get a 14" screen iBook. Buy extra RAM--256MB is a nince start.
2. Macs just work. My 3 year-old Powerbook runs 10 to 12 hours a day and has gone weeks without crashing. Once I went 6 months. And I'm not even on the new OS.
3. If you gotta run some specialized PC software you may need a PC, but Macs will run Virtual PC, which emulates Windoze. I find it works fine for most stuff.
4. I do consulting and tech/marketing writing and ALL my clients are on PCs and we rarely have a file compatibility problem. Just use the same software as others (usually MS Office) or Acrobat and all is fine.
5. Macs don't have as many programs to choose from, but they do have pretty much all you need. Plus things like photos, video, music, etc., are plug and play simple on a Mac.
6. Those "switch ads" are real examples, and after 11 years on Macs, I can't imagine using a PC. And I make my living off it.
