Quantity has a lot to do with it. The number of these cars sold in one year is probably considerably less that the amount of Ford Explorers sold in one month. I sure don’t see many soccer moms driving E55’s but everywhere I turn one is driving a large SUV (and usually talking on the cell phone at the same time).
I’m always amused by the fuel economy reports that are published from time to time. Lamborghini and Ferrari always have the lowest ratings while Civics and Corollas are praised for their mileage. One thing to consider is the amount of fuel TRULY used by these cars. Per year, the average miles driven on a Corolla are usually ten times higher than that of a Lamborghini. And don’t forget the number of Corolla sold verses the number of Diablo’s per year.
Poor fuel economy on limited productions cars doesn’t bother me in the least. Its mass produced, fuel hungry, vehicles bought by commuters that bothers me.
