He might just make it easier than you think. Many dealers in So Cal have old Saturn guys who will offer you a more than fair deal first time including yours truly.
Do take a test drive. I know I have a tremendous obstacle with my manager getting a great price without a test drive.
You shouldn't have to make a commitment to buy to get a price. That's really "old world".
Do be upfront about having a trade or credit issues. The best price in the world won't overcome these.
In one sense the dealer doesn't care how you pay for the car. If you have your own financing pre-arranged he's more than happy to sell you the car and have you bring in the check 3-7 days later. The dealer will definitely compete for your financing. Your bank or credit union makes money on the loan too and so does the dealer, but that doesn't mean you can get a better price by accepting the dealers terms. It means it may be a win win. That is the dealer may get your financing because it's a heck of a lot more convientent and a lower rate too.
Expect different prices for different methods of payment. Lease incentives, purchase incentives, and special finance rates with no incentive. Right now on an Aero you want the incentive and not the rate, but that could change next month. Saab programs change monthly. That's a cheap trick to get you to do something soon, but it is valid.
And Saab has ultra-cheap lease rates, in my opinion, the best overall value for a Saab, the cheapest money. Saab stacks incentives and low lease rates, but not cheap finance rates and incentives. Particularly in light of the future value of money and investements and the fact that you screw the government out of their sales tax with a lease.
Are you in near San Diego?
