Not to assert any sort of vigilante-like justification, I do think that EGD is on the right track. We, as a society, have been so conditioned through both our basic social upbringing of not resorting to retaliation (especially physical violence) and the reinforcement of this upbringing through taking a "rehabilitative" approach for proven criminals, topped off by a decade of (forgive the obvious editorializing) enforced relabeling (lying) of personal characteristics and social situations through "political correctness" that the average citizen does not garner much sympathy in asserting his rights in the face of blatant aggressive/criminal behavior. Rudi Guliani, as Mayor of NYC, did not have a %50 + reduction in crime during his tenure through storm trooper tactics; this achievement was the result of confronting out-of-control aggressiveness for what it is - an abberation of reasonable social norms. Is this aberation the result of low self-esteem - yes, probably. However, the resultant behavior has been instiutionalized (through political correctness, etc.) as "understandable", and we all "just need to work with them". Bullshit! Call the cops - you were threatened! Get his plate number, note the time - you'll find that almost every policeman out there would be more than obgliging in pursuing such a complaint. Bottom line: be realistic - don't get yourself or yours killed, but don't let social trash impinge on you to the point of letting them get away with a threat of physical violence!
