Did you know that originally the 900 Cabriolet has been kind of Finnish desing and R&D?

In the past the quality over the cars that were produced in Uusikaupunki was considered to be better than the ones produced in Trollhättan/Sweden.
Ref: http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/general/index.html?bID=74996 Especially note the high quality etc... (Don't take this as a flame, it's not ment to be!)

Small decision for big GM,,, big thing for a small town that lives on car manufacturing, some estimates say that 10% of the population might be unenployed... Anyway soon the Cabriolet will be "away from home" :-(

News: Valmet Automotive to start negotiations according to the co-operation act

Valmet Automotive will start negotiations according to the co-operation act
necessitated by falling car production numbers. Efforts to reach new agreements continue, but for the moment the order stock of Valmet Automotive will not employ the whole Valmet personnel after the termination of the Saab production.

The termination of Saab assembly agreements in 2003 was announced already earlier. Due to the market situation the production of Saab models, Saab 9-3 Convertible and 5-d manufactured in Uusikaupunki is set to terminate at the turn of April - May. Consequently, the total daily output will roughly halve. In 2003, the estimated number of cars to be manufactured will be around 25,000 units, whereas the output last year was about 40,000 vehicles.

In this production and financial situation Valmet Automotive needs to adapt its personnel accordingly. Today, the company employs about 1600 people.
