Step dad ordered one as a second car the year it came out--89', I think. He never let me drive it when he first got it always claiming that I had my Karmann Ghia convertible to play with--man, that was a sorry car, but it did give me my love for convertibles. He kept the Miata til just last year when my mom forced him to replace it b/c it was getting so raggedy. I liked the way it was sort of loosey goosey when it hit bumps and went through sharp turns--like the whole car might just dissovle underneath you into a thousand pieces like in some cartoon or something--even though it was actually a well built car and was wildly trouble free in its 12 year run at my parents' home. My mom's BMW 5 eventually convinced my step dad to replace it with a last run of production on the Z3 in 2002. Really not much of an improvement over the Miata when it's all said and done. I know my step-dad really misses the Miata but I guess when some people (like Moms) get older they expect "luxury" stuff.
